more 7D fun

as much as i love working with the 7D i am getting a bit overwhelmed with the folders upon folders of footage it leaves me with. most of this footage consists of two of my favorite people so what else can i do, but choose a beautiful song and go at the hundreds of clips with endless hours of editing.

i'd rather...

she was a woman of routines and listening to Louis Jordan while dressing on a friday night was one of them. the sax would glide in from the record player followed by the perfect amount of upright base before Jordan would pose his question; is you is or is you ain't my baby? the answer often varied, but tonight she wore black lace and the deepest shade of Chanel red on her lips. Rouge Coco maybe? she was definitely going to be somebody's baby before the end of the evening, but for the next few rotations of the 45 she belonged to Louis Jordan, "King of the Jukebox."*

i find myself facing yet another monday morning when i'd much rather have the faded red lips of a chanteuse and a champagne induced hangover to tend to.

you learn something new...

i had no clue that, 50 years ago today, two plans collided over new york city. the wreckage of one plane landed right in the middle of a neighborhood in park slope, brooklyn. yesterday the new york times ran a great article about the crash which included an always interesting photo comparison slide bar and a brooklyn sculptor who has collected remnants of the crash that he's found around the neighborhood through the years.

another day, another smile

yesterday i praised the smile of a beautiful, well-dressed girl on the streets of Madrid. today i envy the smiles of the poverty stricken of Uganda. the carolynn in me has a tough time counting her blessings {we/me/i leave that up to cecilia} so i am constantly awe struck when children from countries fraught with violence and disease can still find joy in the day.

photos brought to you by Icelandic photographer Gunnar Salvarsson's flickr stream. daily dose of optimism brought to you by the children of Kampala and the Kachanga and Ssese Islands in Uganda.

"makes me wanna"

this picture by the sartorialist is causing so many "makes me wanna" thoughts in The Anchor that i can't decide which to do first. this girl makes me wanna dust off my camel colored leather jacket that has been pushed to the back of the coat closet for the last 3 years. she makes me wanna stop procrastinating and polish my discolored silver cuffs and bangles. she makes me wanna grow my bangs out again. most of all, though, she makes me wanna smile so genuinely and sweetly like she as if the day was mine for the taking.

the thin layer of linen could at one time be found laying across her mother's dining room table and her mother's mother's table before that. countless family members and friends have traced it's embroidered, scalloped edges. many a housekeeper had smoothed it's silken surface. a Parisian dignitary once spilled an entire Muscadet on the cloth before the main course had even arrived. the string of simple white lights had been found in the very back of the top most shelf of a discreet hall closet. the origins of the pillows were unknown. she lay inside her makeshift tent for hours each night ignoring her age as she manipulated shadows and whimsical tales. she had never been left to her own imagination in such a way and she believed that nights like these would allow her procure an innocence lost.*

it's a cold, wet morning in nyc and I have a bit of a head cold. i'd rather be home and beneath a tent of my own making.

sixx

when i said i was taking a week off i guess i meant three. a combination of the holidays, work, and a much needed visit from The Mister put the blog on hold a bit and it has also put my blog reading on the back burner so i have a lot to catch up on in the blogosphere.

so, lets break out of this blogger lull with the envy inducing skills of sixx design. i love their book! i love their show! i lurve their work!

i lurve big, white, pouffy pendant lights that balance out the masculine.

i lurve a well lit, simplistic room with splashes of color.

i lurve a transparent garage door.

i lurve oversized artwork.
